The Varsity Team concluded its season on Sunday, October 24.  The Varsity Team beat the North Hills in the first game, Shaler in the Semi Final Game and played a tough team, Peters, nut came out on top 29-19 to win the Championship.  It was a fun weekend for the girls and the parents saw a great game.

Thanks to everyone that came out to the games to cheer the girls on.  Also, a big thanks to everyone that came out to help get the fields ready.  It was a great weekend, Bethel hosted the games at Simmons and walked away with the title!

Game Recap - Playoffs 2010

Congratulations to George (Chicko) Fiorentini and the Bethel Park Varsity softball team, this year's WPISL Champions.  Like all of the WPISL championship games so far, this one was a very exciting one.  It was, by far, the highest scoring of all the championship games, perhaps even any WPISL game so far.  Bethel Park took a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning, but Peters battled back to score eight runs in the top of the 2nd inning to make it a 9-8 game.  From that point forward, the two teams battled back and forth into the 6th inning.  As one team scored, the other team answered.  Going into the bottom of the 6th inning, Peters was winning 19-17.  With two outs in the bottom of the 6th, however, Bethel Park's bats lit fire (even more than already exhibited), and Bethel Park scored 12 runs, all with those two outs, to win the game 29-19!

Congratulations also to Dan Levine and the Peters Varsity Softball Team for finishing as this year's runner up. Of note, both Bethel Park and Peters were only in their second year of play in the WPISL.  Last year, West Allegheny won the championship in its first year of play in the WPISL.  That gives encouragement to new teams entering next year, and I understand we have at least three new Varsity teams coming into the WPISL next year!  The growth of this league has been nothing less than phenomenal.  We started with only 6 teams in 2006 and have already grown to 29 teams representing three divisions.

Thanks much to Sue and Steve Shannon, Gail Tarr, and all of the people at Bethel Park for doing a great job hosting the playoffs this year.  You've set a high standard for all who follow.

We need everyone to save the date for our mid-winter meeting, scheduled for January 30, 2011.  I will send around additional information about this meeting once we have it finalized.  If you have agenda items you want added to the mid-winter meeting, please send them to me.

Once again, congrats to Bethel Park, the 2010 WPISL Champions.  See everyone in 2011.
